The Parent Coaching Approach

Dr. Ivey supports parents and care-givers to implement healthy discipline, consistency, effective communication, and optimal nutrition. Dr. Ivey's parent coaching services, including his seminars and support groups, are designed for parents who desire additional information to fine tune their parenting approach and are also appropriate for parents experiencing parenting challenges; having power struggles or conflicts with their child or teen; are using punishment as a means of discipline; or are stressed out more often than not. Dr. Ivey's role as a parenting coach is to increase parental awareness and effectiveness by providing disciplinary strategies which involve no punishment nor any threat of punishment. Dr. Ivey is convinced that punishments or threats have no place in truly healthy, effective parenting. In 30 years of practicing pediatrics, it became abundantly clear to Dr. Ivey that the most insecure, immature, irresponsible, disobedient, disrespectful, hostile and violent kids were the kids who were punished the most. And numerous studies continue to show that punitive style disciplinary approaches increase the risk of kids becoming overly aggressive, hostile and violent.

After utilizing Dr. Ivey's parent coaching strategies, parents will know:

1. How to appropriately assert their parental authority and power.

2. The fundamental difference between healthy discipline and punishment.

3. Why punishment or the threat of punishment harms the child, the parent, & the
parent/child relationship.

4. How to take stress, uncertainty and fear out of child-rearing and replace them with
confidence, peace of mind and joy.

5. That discipline is no longer a bad word and to be used only when the child is "bad,"
but rather has nothing to do with punishment and is an indirect form of love.

6. How to establish and maintain life-long love affair with their kids based on mutual
trust, love and respect.

7. How to create more free time for themselves while more effectively meeting the
needs of their kids.
8. That making mistakes is not only inevitable but essential if parents and kids are to
adequately learn, grow, mature and achieve high success.

9. That by using healthy discipline they are continually, 24/7, promoting feelings of
self-worth,confidence,responsibility and respect in their kids.

10. That they are engaged in healthy parenting when their kids begin to ask for
discipline from them.
